Online tax bill moves forward

As a small, family-run business, WebUndies.com does a great job at exceeding customer expectations and treating everyone we deal with fairly, from vendors to customers and employees.  Now, we are part of a group of businesses that feel we are on the verge of some very unfair treatment.

As large retailers like Amazon expand their businesses and open more warehouses, they are subject to collect sales tax in states where they are located. This was not an issue before they got to be so big and they delightedly sold products all over without collecting tax.  Now that they need to start collecting tax, they seem to have “seen the light” and think it is fair for everyone to collect tax.  After all, why should small businesses have any advantage?

We can tell you why!  Sales tax codes vary not only state-to-state, but also from county to county and sometimes town to town.  On top of that, the items that are taxed vary.  For example, we sell clothing, which is not a taxable item in New Jersey, but is taxable in neighboring New York, though at different tax rates depending on where in NY you shop and live.  Can you imagine the immense burden on small businesses like ours and many others?

We would need to hire an outside company just to manage tax collection and payment.  That extra expense would mean we have less money to hire more staff or invest in our business.  We would be happy to collect tax if it was simplified- why doesn’t our government consider that before placing the burden on the small businesses that support local economies?  Shame on our elected officials for catering, yet again, to the voices of big business and the money they give to campaigns and lobbyists!

Ninjago to go the way of the dinosaur

Around these parts, anyone with a 5-8 year old boy is likely to know a LOT about Lego’s Ninjago series of toys and animated shows.  We were saddened to hear that Lego will be discontinuing the series later this year, to make way for Chima and all of the related marketing opportunities.  (As a side note, all of our boys described Chima as lame or dumb when asked!).

Ever since we started carrying Ninjago pajamas and underwear packs for boys in early 2012, they have been flying out the door.  You can see our current offering here: WebUndies.com Ninjago PJ & Undies.  We have already secured our sons’ favorites before they are gone forever.  Our last shipment comes in June and then, sadly, we will sell out never to restock.  So… if you have a fan of Ninjago in your house, now is the time to get them PJs and undies!  Ninja….GO!

Boy short panties… why?

As people who live and breathe underwear, we often forget that not everyone knows the ins-and-outs of undies.  As we were putting some new Hello Kitty panties on the site, we thought it would be a good time to share what we know.

Two recent additions to our product offering are “boy shorts”.  Why would you choose those over a boy brief or hipster panty?  Boy shorts are typically made with a high Spandex content for a very snug fit and are usually flat- no edges or extras sewn on.  This is to minimize the “lines” made by the panty through your clothes.  They are a great choice for people who don’t wear thong underwear, but want a look without panty lines.  They are not usually made with a high cotton content- another way to avoid bunching and help them fit to your form.  Finally, boy short panties are also low-rise, so they do not tend to peek over the top of your pants (unless you wear ultra-low-rise- can’t help you there!).

WebUndies.com has over 40 styles of boy short panties in styles ranging from Hello Kitty to holiday patterns.  Take a chance on them- you may discover a comfy new underwear style!

Our complete offering of Women’s Boy Short Panties can here seen here.  Please keep in mind that many are Junior Cut sizing.

Plush, fleece, what’s the difference?

dac501You’ll always see in our product descriptions a little something about the fabric used for our products.  These days, plush and fleece seem to be all the rage.  What exactly is the difference, you wonder?

Let’s first look at how they are alike (just like your homework in 4th Grade!).  Both plush and fleece fabric are typically made from 100% polyester.  They are both quite warm and soft.  In terms of care, the garments are washed the same way and both dry pretty quickly.

The main difference between plush and fleece is the softness.  If you put fabric on a softness scale, cotton would be about a 5; fleece would be a 7; and plush would be a 9.5.  Fleece pants and footie pajamas are soft, no doubt.  Quite cozy too, as we can say from experience.  Plush pants and robes, on the other hand are really, super duper, uber soft.

The actual fibers on plush are longer- think about stuffed animals, where a fleece tends to have shorter fibers.  Both are great for the cold and are cozy- one is just a little more luxurious to the touch!

What does ‘Junior Cut’ sizing mean?

As Internet shoppers ourselves, we know that getting the sizing right can be tough.  You’ll often see the term ‘Junior Cut’ in the description of our Women’s products.  This can be a real source of confusion, so we’ll straighten it out for you!  Picture yourself in a department store and put yourself in the Junior section.  Yep- where the music is a bit more recent and louder!

An item described as ‘Junior Cut’ tends to be narrrower and shorter than a Women’s size.  They are also designed to be more snug-fitting.  They typically do not fit a very curvy figure- if you are a pear-shape or have a fuller top, the fit is not likely to work on your body.  We have heard from some customers with a curvy body that Junior Cut items fit like a child’s shirt or bottom.  A junior size is cut to fit a body with fewer curves, smaller bust and less size difference between waist and hips.

A size small item that is Junior Cut would fit a Juniors (not ladies) 3-5; a medium is roughly a 7-9; a large would be about an 11-13.  Note that the numbering is even different from a Missy Cut.
